STEALING THE ETERNAL

Tant is one of four members of the Broken Fingaz crew, who are self taught street artists from Haifa. I love the feeling of speed and immediacy here, the way he often lets the canvas or paper show through or leaves empty space between fields of paint. There’s just a lot of joy and pleasure and appreciation for fugitive beauty that is often absent in work I see. A sort of mythological or primordial world that is rooted in essential human activities. The color blocking. The sense of movement. The shorthand quality of graphic communication. I look at his work and think, “I’m being too specific. Too fixed.” Horses gallop with riders in eternity. Nude ladies nap. People gather near the mountains. This is where I want to dwell.
